2010 SUMMER CAMPS - LITTLE THEATRE OF NEW SMYRNA BEACH

Posted on April 19th, 2010

SUBJECT:  2010 SUMMER CAMPS

CONTACT:  BILL COOK    386-690-0684 BillCook@NsbPlayers.org

The Little Theatres WonderLand program for aspiring young actors has TWO SUMMER CAMPS scheduled this year.

CAMP I:  A two-week camp for Ages 7-12
Monday thru Friday, June 14—25  9 a.m. 3 p.m. Tuition: $235

“GOONEY BIRD GREENE” The summer has come to a crashing halt in the little town of Watertower. The kids don’t want to be back in school; they are listless and bored. Suddenly, the classroom door bursts open and there, wearing pajamas and cowboy boots, stands red-headed Gooney Bird Greene!
Gooney Bird speaks with confidence and dresses in outrageous outfits including Capri pants, blue knee socks, high-topped basketball sneakers, and elbow-length black gloves. She tells the most improbable, outlandish stories: how she arrived from China on a flying carpet, how she got a lovely pair of diamond earrings at the local palace, how she directed a symphony orchestra while driving through the center of town, and how her beloved cat, Catman, was consumed by a cow!
Gooney Bird awakens the students’ dormant imaginations. They come to realize their lives are as unique as Gooney Bird’s and that they, too, can cast themselves as the heroes in their own true tales of discovery and adventure. The last day of camp will be a performance for friends and family - approximate running time: 1 hour.
Special Note: Students need to bring their own lunch.

CAMP II:  A One-week camp for ages 4-6
Monday thru Friday,
June 28—July 2,  9 a.m. 12:30 p.m. Tuition: $80.00

“BEARS AND MORE BEARS, or BEARS AND TEDDY BEARS’ Through the use of books and stories about bears, these young students will explore drama through creative games, role playing, movement, songs and poetry. At the end of the camp, a short “show and tell” program will be presented to parents and friends.
Special Note: Snack will be provided.

There’s fun for all ages. Class sizes are limited and pre-registration and pre-payment are required. Scholarships are available for students seeking financial assistance.  Please contact the Little Theatre Box Office at 386-423-1246 for additional information.

The Dixie Swim Club opens April 9 - LITTLE THEATRE

Posted on April 5th, 2010

‘The Dixie Swim Club’
Comedy Drama by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten.
Performances: April 9, 10, 11* & April 15, 16, 17, 18*

Dixie Cast, left to right: Karen Poulsen, Lauretta Lawrence, Pattie Earl, Ida Anderson, Joey Reader

Five Southern women, whose friendships began many years ago on their college swim team, set aside a long weekend every August to recharge their relationships. Free from husbands, kids and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage on North Carolina’s Outer Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other’s lives. The Dixie Swim Club focuses on four of those weekends and spans a period of 33 years. As their lives unfold and the years pass, these women increasingly rely on one another, through advice and raucous repartee, to get through the challenges that life flings at them. The funny and touching story of these five unforgettable women is about friendships that last forever.

* All evening performances are at 8 p.m.
Sundays are matinees which are at 2 p.m.
Tickets: Adults $14, Seniors $13, Students $7
