A Different Kind of Daycare fron The Observer
NEW SMYRNA BEACH — Coco Forkhamer sat in a rocking chair overlooking her domain. She’s a benevolent overseer, at two pounds of teacup terrier, it’s hard to be anything else.
“Oh, Coco gets along with all her playmates,” said Doggy Daycare co-owner and manager Al Forkhamer.
Behind a hip-high picket fence, a Jack Russell Terrier named Chica is bouncing around, as only Jack Russells can do. Chica and the five other day-trippers here at Coco’s Canine Club at 4164 South Atlantic Avenue, appear to be right at home and fully engaged in the social dynamic. “SQUABBLES” CAST PHOTO - Standing in back: Don Campbell, Paul Lavallee -  Seated, left to right: Harriet Winokur, Will Bordelon, Jennifer Hyde, Patti Earl - Down in front: Bobby Roam

ABE AND MILDRED, THE SQUABBLING IN-LAWS - left to right: Don Campbell as Abe Dreyfus and Harriet Winokur as Mildred Sloan     As the 2009-10 season opener, the Little Theatre of New Smyrna Beach will produce “Squabbles,” a comedy by Marshall Karp. The show will run two week-ends: September 11, 12 and 13 and September 17, 18, 19 and 20 for a total of 7 performances. The director is Shelly Wawrzonek.
Playwright Marshall Karp has penned this hilarious comedy in a tried and true style of writing, utilizing some of his own life experiences as a backdrop. Having carved a successful career in advertising and overseeing contracts for the likes of Coca-Cola, Gillette and Nestle, Karp turned to writing for television, stage and screen and live theatre.
Karp’s “Squabbles” tells an entertaining story about Jerry Sloan who is a successful writer of advertising jingles and married to an equally successful lawyer. Living with the happy couple is the not so happy Abe Dreyfus, Jerry’s curmudgeon of a father-in-law. The situation is exacerbated when Jerry’s mother (Mildred) loses her house in a fire and needs a place to stay. Since the wedding, Abe and Mildred can’t stand each other. This play is one hilarious confrontation after another until the heartwarming finale.
