The Merchants of Flagler Avenue presented Light Up Flagler, the annual New Smyrna Beach beachside business district holiday celebration. Most merchants had an open house at their place of business and served refreshments. Many merchants decorated for the season and competed for “best window display” and “best building.”
There was lots of live entertainment on the avenue, including Coronado Methodist Chancel Choir Singers, Indian River Chorus, Read-Pattillo Chorus, Chisholm Chorus, Alaia & Company, NSB High School Jazz Ensemble, Marine Discovery Center Carolers, and strollers from the Little Theatre of NSB. There were also demonstrations by Yvette Harley Dancers, American Martial Arts, Terri’s Twirling Tornadoes, the Black Belt Academy and Cheer Team, and flameworkers at Galleria di Vetro.
Santa gave rides up and down the avenue in his sleigh in exchange for a donation to the Dream-A-Wish Foundation.
There was a huge turn out for this holiday event, and everyone in attendance seemed to really be enjoying themselves.

On Friday the Best of the Best were sampled. These top wines were Gold, Silver and Bronze medal winners. The wines were complemented with elegant foods; cuisine taken from that offered on Norwood’s own extensive menu.
On Saturday was the Grand Tasting, with 500 wines from around the world available to be sampled. Again, the wines were complemented with food, in the form of heavy Hor D’Oeuvres. Norwood’s out did themselves with the food they provided!
The proceeds from this event, as well as from the silent auction conducted during the event, went to benefit several local charities including Hospice of New Smyrna Beach and Habitat for Humanity. Auctioned items Read the rest of this entry »
