The Rotary Club of Edgewater sponsored the community Easter Egg Hunt for the seventh year on Saturday March 22nd at Rotary Park. The day started with the dedication of a new flag for the park and presentation of a $500.00 check to Volusia Honor Air from Edgewater Rotary. Two members of DeLand Rotary Clubs were present to accept the check from the Edgewater Club. The funds will be used to sponsor a WWII Veteran on a trip to Washington DC in May. One Hundred WWII Veterans, 50 sponsors and medical personnel will be headed for DC to visit the WWII Memorial, Arlington National Ceremony and other monuments on a one day excursion. The trip is being funded by donations from Rotary Clubs, Corporations and individuals as a gift to our greatest generation of heroes.
The annual Egg Hunt was attended by about 500 kids with parents and grandparents. The City Leisure Services Department organized the events with the help of the Rotary Club and the NSBHS Interact Club members. This year, kids were invited to create some craft items before the hunt began and were treated to cookies and drinks by the Edgewater Rotary. The Easter Bunny was available for pictures and presented a gift to each child. All the attendees were grouped together by age and gathered about 10,000 eggs during the morning. The Rotary Club also distributed 200 plush bunnies and ducks to the kids by way of a pneumatic cannon which was created by members of Edgewater Rotary. The Egg Hunt is one of the many community projects which are funded entirely or in part by the Rotary Club.

rsary of the Everybody’s Flower Show at the Daytona Beach Garden Show MARCH 13-16, 2008 sponsored by The Daytona Beach News-Journal. The Council of Garden Clubs of the Halifax District is honored to present Everybody’s Flower Show for another 4-day array of beautiful plants, exhibits, designs, and displays. We extend our sincere thanks to The Daytona Beach News-Journal for their continued sponsorship and support, and we are pleased to dedicate this Show to our most ardent supporter, Mr. Tippen Davidson. He is missed. Our theme this year is “Globe-Trotting”…which allows our minds to wander all over the world, visualizing gardens in far-reaching, exotic places. Think of the fascinating marketplaces of Marrakesh; a fun picnic of wine and cheese in Paris; a grand “asado” (cookout) in Argentina; the serenity of a Tokyo garden; or, the excitement of a night “on the town” in New York City. Allow yourself to dream…Posted in - Daytona Beach, -ALL Recent Headlines, -YES4The Arts | Comments (0)

SHAMROCK LUNCHEON was the theme of the March 13 for the Women’s Connection Luncheon at SMYRNA YACHT CLUB. The chairman Marianne Luchansky began the program with some “Irish Blarney” before we enjoyed our delicious Chicken & Veggie plate with a great dessert prepared by Chef Mark Bartell from the yacht club.
Young Rachel Welch performed her Irish & Celtic Melodies as she strung her harp and violin. She studied in Ireland and will be traveling throughout the summer. We wish her well.
We gave away some great door prizes as we do each and every month. Rosemary Stirling won the beautiful flowers donated by New Smyrna Beach Florist.
Speaker Jo Ayres was an excitable lady who’s story touched all that were there. She started off by saying she wore a lot of different faces and she lied a lot. She wanted to be the “Happiest Girl In The USA.” She learned after running around and Read the rest of this entry »

New Smyrna Beach - What a pleasant surprise for local resident, Diane Sanders, when Gary Conroy, of the Knights of Colu
mbus, called to offer a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for her cancer-fighting husband, Jeff. Conroy had read about the Sanders’ plight in the local paper and did what the Knights do, offered caring, genuine assistance.
The fundraiser was a great success, combined with a bake sale and raffle on the evening of March 1 at the Knights of Columbus Hall on S. Orange Avenue, the delicious spaghetti dinner event brought in $1,250 to help the Sanders’ family with their medical bills. “A wonderful success, beyond our expectations!” exclaimed Sanders. “We so appreciate the concern and generosity of the Knights.”
Friends and family members kept flowing in throughout the evening, some from as far as Polk County. All who attended enjoyed the fun and fellowship. “I haven’t had this much fun in a long while,” shared a recent widow, “I really enjoyed the evening.” The benefits of the evening were pleasingly more Read the rest of this entry »

My husband will ask at least twice a week, “Why are you doing this?” Now you are asking, doing what? I’m opening the store again. What store? It was Shannon’s Garden & Gifts, now it’s Orange St. Market.
My first experience with retail was quite an eye-opener. My main obstacle was and still is my location. Although the store is only one block south-east of US-1 and Canal Street at 200 S. Orange Street, New Smyrna Beach, it‘s not on Read the rest of this entry »
