View the ArtWalk - December 22, 2007 On the fourth Saturday of every month, the Gallery Group of Flagler Avenue presents “Art Walk on Flagler”. This free event offers an opportunity to spend a leisurely day enjoying fine arts in our seven diverse galleries, as well as among our visiting artists who set up outdoors in tents, on porches, and in courtyards along the Avenue. You’ll be entertained by musicians, street performers, face painters, portrait artists, and more. You’ll have an opportunityto see artists at work painting, blowing glass, perhaps even faceting precious gems. You can also visit “Artwood Forest”, the realm of imagination, where you can enjoy fun activities for children of all ages. It’s easy to find whatever interests you with the Art Walk programs available wherever you see the blue and black Gallery Group flags. Get the program punched at each gallery and have a chance to win a prize. Flagler Avenue also has dozens of quaint shops and dining options for every budget and taste. On the east we have Florida’s best beach and on the west, the sunsets over the Indian River Lagoon are to die for! There’s plenty of free public parking and, yes, all of this is in easy walking distance along the five blocks from the river to the ocean.

It was “Christmas the way you remember it” at Hidden Lakes Golf Club recently. Rick Martorano and his talented performers offered seasonal renditions as well as standard favorites after a scrumptious dinner.

View Friday View Saturday
Good times, great food and fond memories were not the only benefits of Saturday’s Norwood’s Annual Holiday Wine Festival. Four area charities also reaped the benefits of the gala event. Beginning Friday evening, patrons filled the outdoor tents overflowing with an array of some of the finest wines available and delectable edible delights, ranging from Norwood’s infamous crab cakes to pan seared Mahi Mahi.
Saturday’s clear skies brought hundreds of guests to Norwood’s biggest event of the year. Beginning twelve years ago, Norwood’s Wine Festival was a way for owners Don and Pamela Simmons to give back to the community for the many years of loyalty shown by it’s customers. This year’s event was the biggest and best, yet.
The Holiday Wine Festival offered it’s guests entire rooms filled with desserts, and outdoor tents filled with over 500 varieties of wine and luscious entrees and appetizers. Live music filled the air as patrons sampled delights the entire afternoon. Guests also received special pricing on wine purchases throughout the month of December.
Through a silent auction, with items that were literally priceless, money was raised to benefit Atlantic Center for the Arts, Hospice of New Smyrna Beach , New Smyrna Beach Parks and Recreation Department’s Scholarship program and United Church of Christ’s Teens In Action Youth Group. The Simmons’ donated items such as a five course dinner for eight in Norwood’s Private Wine Attic and a Norwood’s VIP Customer Package with monthly dinners accompanied with priority seating and select wines. Coupled with exquisite gift baskets full of fine gifts, gift certificates and edible delights, wine caves filled to capacity and wine collections for every preference and palate, these items raised much needed funds for all of the charities listed above.
Plans are already underway for next year’s event, always the first Saturday in December, which promises to be even bigger and better than ever.
